Come Fly With Me

I finished piecing this today. This is a pattern called Come Fly With Me that I did with the strips from one of those Bali-Pop two and half inch strip packs that I got a couple Christmases ago. It’s theoretically an easy pattern, but it was a small nightmare to get the top sewn together. At least the first half was horrible, which is probably why it sat around for a couple months before got around to finishing it. The strips get all wobbly, you see, and if you look closely towards the middle you can see where some of the strips are not exactly the same size of the others. That was me sewing the worst seam I have ever sewed in my entire life including all the seams I sewed as a child in an attempt to correct how far off these strips were. They basically only matched up for about an inch. I guess it worked, though, because the second half that I did today was not that bad at all. It’s only nominally square. As with so much else with this project, I basically went “Good enough.”

I think for the quilting I will just follow the edge of the flying geese as they snake around and then echo that out, leaving the geese themselves unquilted. Or maybe do a little triangle inside each of them.
