FibreShare (Fall 2018)

This year I participated in my first FibreShare exchange! If you’ve never heard of FibreShare before, it’s basically a worldwide Secret Santa for fiber enthusiasts (except minus all the Secret stuff). You sign up for $8 and then the organizers pair you up according to your preferences to two partners. One of your partners is the person you’re responsible for sending a box to, the other partner is the person who send you a box. As a sender you’re meant to talk to the partner you’re sending to, creepily stalk all their social media, and pick out something they’ll like. You’re only required to send 200g of fiber, but it’s highly encouraged to send more and other goodies. The $8 sign up fee covers boxes for anyone whose partner flaked out on them, or whose package got lost in the mail. It’s based primarily on Instagram, so you’ll need one of those to sign up!

You’re also able to specify where you’re willing to ship, internationally or domestically. I’m used to shipping things to the UK several times a year, so I marked that I was willing to ship international and got paired with TWO Germans!

My FibreShare Box

This is most of what I sent to my partner. (The cute cacti are not included – those are from IKEA!) I wanted to send things that were from Florida. So the dyer of the yarn is Casual Fashion Queen, who is an indie dyer in Orlando. The print of Catwoman was done by my good friend, up and coming comic artist, and Florida native, Liana Kangas. The drawstring bag at the back I made myself. Not pictured is the box of Grimaldi’s Chocolate Covered Potato Chips, which is a local delicacy.

So that got sent out and arrived promptly. It usually only takes a week for shipping to and from Germany (and the UK). Imagine how very anxious I was starting to get when the package I was sent took THREE WEEKS to arrive! We were both very worried about it, but last week it finally arrived! And wow, pfiffa sent me so much amazing stuff. I am totally spoiled. (And also maybe I feel a little inadequate, lol.)

She even wrapped everything! (Which I didn’t because I am terribly lazy and also barely fit everything into the box – I had to really tape it shut!) The box was a little worse for wear. It looks like the USPS attempted to patch it together with some of their tape, lol, but everything inside was perfectly fine! The two things that won’t be pictured here are the lebkuchen cookies and a sweet little Christmas ornament from the Christmas markets.

Beautiful skeins by welthase! The leftmost one might be the most gorgeous skein I’ve ever seen.

Two skeins the same of Das Mondschaf merino singles in It’s Never Lupus! They have Star Trek and Fallout inspired yarn too!

A cheerful yellow skein of donegal tweed by zauberwiese! Might pair this with my other tweed skeins I got from the admiral.

A huge cake of Sheepjes Whirl and two tiny little balls of Rorspatz und Wollmeise! The Whirl was a favorite of two of my friends.

macrame wallhanging

And then the coup de gras, this beautiful macrame wallhanging that pfiffa made for me herself!!!

I couldn’t be more thrilled with what I received! I’m going to hang the macrame in my quilt studio where the walls are green so it will show up against them. Thank you so much to pfiffa for sending me basically everything I even halfway mentioned on my list. She really nailed it! Can’t wait to do FibreShare again!
